Therizinosaurus

Logan

Therizinosaurus is infamous for its arms. The arms alone can reach around 3 meters long, are tipped with massive claws, and are the longest known in any animal. When they were first discovered, they were thought to be used by a giant turtle to rake up seaweed. Once it became clear Therizinosaurus was a dinosaur, the next hypothesis was slashing other dinosaurs. But this isn't the case either.

Therizinosaurus is an herbivore. It is a large, fat, potbellied animal that stands more upright than most other dinosaurs. And unlike most other theropods, all four toes bear its animal's weight. Therizinosaurus has a long neck and a small, probably beaked head, with the leaf-shaped teeth of an herbivore.

In light of this, the claws make more sense. They are comparatively straight and dull, almost like those of sloths. It's plausible the claws may have been used for self-defense, display, or grabbing branches. Surely this is one of the most unusual dinosaurs from the forests of the Nemegt.

We have two Therizinosaurus, Logan and Harvey. They live in the Mongolia of the Cretaceous exhibit. These two males are bonded partners. We love and support them.
