Stegoceras

Not to be confused with Stegosaurus, Stegoceras is a smaller relative of Pachycephalosaurus. Its skull, like many pachycephalosaurids, has a thickened dome over the roof and a knobbly shelf on the back. The skull is triangular, and its teeth are small and serrated. Its body is broad and its tail is long and stiffened.

Stegoceras' dome was used for butting, which is indicated by injuries to the dome. The skull rests perpendicularly on the neck, so when the neck is straightened the dome faces sforward. Juveniles started out flat-headed and developed the dome by adulthood. It has a good sense of smell, and its nasal passages pass by the brain, allowing air to cool it down.

Our Stegoceras can be found in the Gladiators of the Mesozoic exhibit.
