Nanosaurus
This little dinosaur was found during the Bone Wars and originally named by Othniel Charles Marsh in 1877. Since then, small ornithischians from the Morrison Formation have been caught in a taxonomic quagmire, involving Laosaurus, Othnielia, Othnielosaurus, and Drinker. It has most recently been argued that all these names represent the same species, and since Nanosaurus was named first, it would be the name to use. Nanosaurus is a small ornithischian, with a small, beaked skull filled with leaf-shaped teeth, short arms, long legs, and cartilaginous plates between the vertebrae called intercostal plates. It was a small herbivore and probably ate a variety of plants. Our Nanosaurus can be found scurrying about Vista View. They most often frequent the forested section to the south, and they're generally easier to see from the Conway Trail. |
