Guanlong

Alexandria

Guanlong's name, "crowned dragon", refers to its most distinctive feature - the crest on its head. Guanlong is part of a group of crested tyrannosauroids called proceratosaurids. The crest, being delicate and thin, was probably a display feature.

Guanlong is pretty similar to other basal tyrannosauroids, with a long narrow skull, a long stiff tail, and moderately large arms. A far cry from its later relative Tyrannosaurus. Interestingly, fossils of this small predator have been found in fossilized quicksand-like "death traps".

Alexandria the Guanlong is an ambassador animal at Huxley Paleozoo. She is very docile and tolerant of people, and will even let people feel her feathers. Come visit her at the Anning Paleontological Museum!
