Camptosaurus

Camptosaurus is among the less celebrated dinosaurs oft he Morrison Formation. Since its discovery, many species have been assigned to Camptosaurus, giving an impression of a rather long-lived and wide-ranging genus. Today, only C. dispar, from late Jurassic North America, remains.

It is a relatively large basal iguanodont, with a robust, sturdily-built body and a small triangular head. It has many small teeth tightly packed into the jaw, adapted for eating tough plants. Its thickly-built legs afford a speed of about 15 miles an hour, not particularly fast comapred to potential predators such as Allosaurus.

Vista View houses a herd of Camptosaurus. They tend to keep their distance from the larger Brachiosaurus and Brontosaurus.
