Edmontonia
First named in 1928, Edmontonia is one of the most well-known nodosaurids. It has a broad, stocky body covered in small spikelike osteoderms. Most of these are small and pebble-like, but the ones near the base of the neck have evolved into large forward-pointing spikes, likely for defense. The face is also armored, down to osteoderms embedded in the cheeks! These medium-sized herbivores would have been an obstacle for any ambitious predators. Our two Edmontonia, both females, spend most of their time alone. Not to the extent of the Euoplocephalus, but close. They live in the Gladiators of the Mesozoic section. |
